Terraphax is an ancient earth creature summoned to protect the upper entrance to the Malachite Hold by Igsmund Boremeldon, first Steward of the Hold after the Moradin Schism of 233 CY. Igsmund had his hands full as the dwarven factions had split between the warring Royal Family and Priests of Moradin. Only a few dwarves remained in the Hold itself and the gnomes above in Jzadirune often stopped by unannounced. Without enough guards, the poor Steward had to look elsewhere to secure the borders of the Hold.

Terraphax gladly accepted its duties and has guarded the front entrance of the Hold for the past three centuries.
